My summer vacation is finally here and I want to go into the summer as a different person. With the end of the semester a professor asked for us to write a paper on what we have learned about ourselves throughout the semester. I have learned far more than expected. I moved over here to get away from particular drama and start fresh, however, your problems always find a way of following you. I didn’t need to move to end my problems but I needed to change things within myself. I recently have been told, a lot, that I am a very shallow and vain person. However, that really isn’t who I am. I do have a deeper sense of me, I care far more about other things than how I look and the surface appearance of others. For example, I care about my friends and trying to be there for them when they need me and I care about my education and broadening my future. All of my life I have been portrayed as either a selfish person and someone who lacks depth. I don’t see that when I look in the mirror, but I do see a person who would put anyone before their own needs and someone with a lot of issues that doesn’t allow to be shared. I’m sorry if I come off as a shallow and vain individual but it is only because I have so many high expectations from others that I am afraid of making a mistake and letting them down. I learned to know who your true friends are because some are so self-absorbed that they tend not to your feelings or conflicts into perspective. I appreciate every single friend that I do have and the new ones that I have made. This is just a small exert of what I have learned about myself in last few months, sorry if it’s of no interest.
